Richard Bonynge (ur. 29 września 1930 w Sydney) – australijski dyrygent i pianista. Związany z wydawnictwem Decca Records, zasłynął przede wszystkim jako interpretator oper, które nagrywał z udziałem swojej żony Joan Sutherland - https://www.czczaplinski.com/post/portret-z-historią-joan-sutherland .

Uznany autorytet w zakresie interpretacji dzieł scenicznych francuskich XIX wieku oraz włoskich epoki bel canta. Przygotował muzycznie "Montecchich i Capuletich" Vincenza Belliniego w Operze i Operetce w Krakowie (premiera 13 lutego 1999).

Urodził się w Epping, na przedmieściach Sydney. Kształcił się w Sydney Boys High School, następnie studiował grę na fortepianie w Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Uzyskał stypendium w Royal College of Music w Londynie, gdzie jego nauczycielem gry na fortepianie był Herbert Fryer. Tam poznał Joan Sutherland, która została jego żoną w 1954.

Zadebiutował jako dyrygent operowy w 1962 w Rzymie, prowadząc Santa Cecilia Orchestra. Był dyrektorem artystycznym Sutherland-Williamson Grand Opera Company w Australii w 1965, Vancouver Opera 1974-1977 i The Australian Opera 1976-1986.

Ma na swoim koncie liczne nagrania płytowe i filmowe z wielu oper (50 całych oper) oraz baletów. Jest znany jako badacz bel canto w XVIII i XIX wieku w muzyce operowej i baletowej. Autor książek: The Joan Sutherland Album (z Joan Sutherland), 1986; Joan Sutherland, Designs for a Prima Donna, 1985; A Collector's Guide to Theatrical Postcards, 1988; Joan Sutherland i Richard Bonynge with The Australian Opera, 1990 (wszystkie wyd. Został odznaczony licznymi odznaczeniami, m.in.: Order Imperium Brytyjskiego (1977), Oficer Orderu Australii (1983), Order Sztuki i Literatury (1989), Socio d'onore Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna (2007), Sir Bernard Heinze Memorial Award (2009).

Mieszka w Les Avants w Szwajcarii oraz w Sydney. Z żoną, znaną śpiewaczką Joan Sutherland (zm. 2010) ma jednego syna, Adama (ur. 1956).

Richard Bonynge (born September 29, 1930, in Sydney) is an Australian conductor and pianist. Associated with Decca Records, he became renowned primarily as an interpreter of operas, which he recorded with the participation of his wife, Joan Sutherland https://www.czczaplinski.com/post/portret-z-historią-joan-sutherland.

He is a recognized authority on the interpretation of 19th-century French stage works and Italian works of the bel canto era. He prepared the musical direction for I Capuleti e i Montecchi by Vincenzo Bellini at the Opera and Operetta in Kraków (premiere: February 13, 1999).

He was born in Epping, a suburb of Sydney. He was educated at Sydney Boys High School and later studied piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He received a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London, where his piano teacher was Herbert Fryer. There he met Joan Sutherland, who became his wife in 1954.

He made his debut as an opera conductor in 1962 in Rome, conducting the Santa Cecilia Orchestra. He has numerous audio and video recordings to his credit, including many operas (50 complete operas) and ballets. He is known as a researcher of bel canto in 18th- and 19th-century opera and ballet music. He is the author of books: The Joan Sutherland Album (with Joan Sutherland, 1986); Joan Sutherland: Designs for a Prima Donna (1985); A Collector's Guide to Theatrical Postcards (1988); Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge with The Australian Opera (1990) — all published by Craftsman House Press.

He has received numerous honors, including the Order of the British Empire (1977), Officer of the Order of Australia(1983), the Order of Arts and Letters (1989), Socio d’onore of the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna (2007), and the Sir Bernard Heinze Memorial Award (2009).

He lives in Les Avants, Switzerland, and in Sydney. With his wife, the renowned soprano Joan Sutherland (d. 2010), he has one son, Adam (born 1956).
