Kiedy dowiedziałem się kilkanaście dni wcześniej, że w listopadzie 1986 będę miał szansę spotkać osobiście i fotografować Tonny Bennetta w Nowym Jorku, gdzie miał się przygotowywać do dużych występów, zaczęłem odgrzebywać materiały, które o nim zgromadziłem. Od lat chciałem go fotografować i zobaczyć na wyciągnięcie ręki. Jego nizwykle ostre i wyraziste rysy twarzy, genialnie nadają się do portretów, które mogą coś powiedzieć.
Anthony Dominick Benedetto (Tony Bennett - pseudonim artystyczny) (ur. 3 sierpnia 1926 r. w Astorii w Queens w Nowym Jorku, we włosko-amerykańskiej rodzinie, zmarł 21 lipca 2023 r. w Nowym Jorku) – piosenkarz, malarz (tworząc dzieła pod nazwiskiem Anthony Benedetto).
Jego ojciec urodził się w Podàrgoni, Kalabria, Włochy, a jego matka w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Po tym, jak jego rodzice wyemigrowali z Kalabrii. Dorastał ze starszą siostrą: Marią i starszym bratem: Johnem Jr. Jego ojciec zmarł, gdy miał zaledwie 10 lat. Jeden z jego wujów, który był tancerzem stepowania, zbliżył go do świata rozrywki. Jak spojżenie w oczy, to takie, że aż ciarki przechodzą, jak profil, to stuprocentowy. Spotkałem jeszcze Tony Bennetta pewnie 2-3 razy później, ale już nie było tego nastroju co za pierwszym razem.
