Robert Ludlum (ur. 25 maja 1927 w Nowym Jorku, zm. 12 marca 2001 w Naples na Florydzie) – pisarz, aktor i producent.
Autor 27 powieści sensacyjnych, odtwórca ról w ok. 200 sztukach telewizyjnych, założyciel teatru Playhouse-on-the-Mall. Pisarz bestsellerów, jeśli tak można powiedzieć, według różnych źródeł, jego powieści zostały sprzedane w 290–500 milionach egzemplarzy w 32 językach na terenie 40–50 krajów.
Dorastał w Short Hills w stanie New Jersey, gdzie w 1945 wstąpił do piechoty morskiej. Studia ukończył w Wesleyan University na wydziale sztuk pięknych. Grywał na Broadwayu i w sztukach telewizyjnych. Zadebiutował w 1943 w sztuce Junior Miss mając zaledwie 16 lat. W latach 50. pojawił się aż w 200 sztukach telewizyjnych. Jako producent wystawił w 1956 na Broadwayu sztukę The Owl and the Pussycat.
Zanim został pisarzem, przez 20 lat był aktorem teatralnym. Pisać zaczął dopiero w wieku 40 lat, natychmiast jednak odniósł sukces trafiając na pierwsze miejsca list bestsellerów. Od tamtej pory każda jego książka była czytelniczym hitem. Także w Polsce książki Ludluma cieszą się ogromnym zainteresowaniem - łącznie rozeszły się w nakładzie kilku milionów egzemplarzy. Po ukazaniu się w 1971 jego pierwszej książki Dziedzictwo Scarlattich Robert Ludlum rozpoczął regularne pisanie (średnio jedna książka na rok). Większość jego tytułów stała się bestsellerami, dzięki którym stał się bogatym człowiekiem. W 1998 podpisał umowę z wydawnictwem St. Martin’s Press na kwotę 4 milionów dolarów za książkę. Niektóre książki autor publikował pod pseudonimami Michael Shepherd i Jonathan Ryder.
W marcu 1984 r. spotkałem i fotografowałem w Nowym Jorku Roberta Ludluma, wyszła wówczas jego książka Spisek Akwitanii (The Aquitaine Progression, 1984) wydana przez prestiżowe wydawnictwo Random House Inc. w New York, dla którego robiłem zdjęcia Michenera i Kapuścińskiego. Po roku z okładem wysłałem mu kilka zdjęć, jakie wówczas zrobiłem, informując, że chce je użyć na mojej wystawwie. Otrzymałem nizwykle miły list, w którym Robert Ludlum pisał: „…Znakomite fotografie. Jest dla mnie zaszczytem, być cząstką Pańskiej wystawy…”. Muszę powiedzieć, że gdybym nie miał oryginalnego, napisanego ręcznie listu (w załączeniu) nie odważyłbym się czegoś takiego powiedzieć, nawet gdybym to usłyszał. To niezwykłe słowa wielkiego człowieka. Jestem dumny, że miałem szansę się z nim poznać i jeszcze raz go spotkać i fotografować 26 lutego 1992 r. też w Nowym Jorku, dziękując za poprzedni list i pokazałem mu, że jego portret był w Zachęcie Narodowej Galerii Sztuki w Warszawie w 1989 r.

Robert Ludlum (born May 25, 1927 in New York, died March 12, 2001 in Naples, Florida) - writer, actor and producer.
Author of 27 sensational novels, roles in approx. 200 television plays, founder of the Playhouse-on-the-Mall theater. Bestselling writer, so to speak, according to various sources, his novels have sold 290–500 million copies in 32 languages in 40–50 countries.
He grew up in Short Hills, NJ, where he joined the Marines in 1945. He graduated from Wesleyan University at the faculty of fine arts. He has played on Broadway and in television plays. He made his debut in 1943 in the play Junior Miss when he was only 16. In the 1950s, he appeared in as many as 200 television plays. As a producer, he staged The Owl and the Pussycat on Broadway in 1956.
Before becoming a writer, he was a theater actor for 20 years. He did not start writing until the age of 40, but was immediately successful, hitting the top of the bestseller lists. Since then, each of his books has been a reader's hit. Ludlum's books are also very popular in Poland - several million copies have been sold in total. Following the publication of his first book, The Scarlatti Legacy, in 1971, Robert Ludlum began writing regularly (an average of one book per year). Most of his titles became bestsellers which made him a rich man. In 1998, he signed a contract with the publishing house St. Martin's Press for $ 4 million per book. The author has published some books under the pseudonyms of Michael Shepherd and Jonathan Ryder.
In March 1984, I met and photographed Robert Ludlum in New York, when his book The Aquitaine Progression (1984) was published by the prestigious Random House Inc. in New York, for which I took photos of Michener and Kapuściński. After a year with a wrap, I sent him some photos I had taken then, informing him that he wanted to use them at my exhibition. I received a very nice letter in which Robert Ludlum wrote: “… Excellent photos. It is an honor for me to be a part of your exhibition… ”. I must say that if I had not had the original handwritten letter (attached) I would not have dared to say something like that, even if I had heard it. These are the remarkable words of a great man. I am proud that I had the chance to meet him and meet him again and photograph him on February 26, 1992, also in New York, thanking him for the previous letter and showing him that his portrait was at Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw in 1989.
