Stanisław Baj (ur. 2 czerwca 1953 w Dołhobrodach) – malarz, wykładowca w Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Warszawie oraz w Europejskiej Akademii Sztuk.
Pochodzi z chłopskiej rodziny. Dzieciństwo i wczesną młodość spędził nad Bugiem w podlaskiej wsi Dołhobrody, gdzie ukończył szkołę podstawową. W latach 1968–1972 uczył się w państwowym Liceum Sztuk Plastycznych w Zamościu, następnie w latach 1972–1978 studiował malarstwo na warszawskiej ASP pod kierunkiem profesorów: M. Byliny, J. Sienickiego i L. Maciąga. Studia ukończył z wyróżnieniem w pracowni Ludwika Maciąga, u którego pozostał jako asystent. W 1982 podjął pracę dydaktyczną w macierzystej uczelni, gdzie prowadził Pracownię Rysunku na Wydziale Malarstwa. Jednocześnie kierował seminariami z rysunku i malarstwa w Europejskiej Akademii Sztuk w Warszawie. W latach 2006–2013 prorektor do spraw dydaktycznych Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Warszawie.
Autor ponad 100 wystaw indywidualnych w kraju i za granicą, uczestniczył również w ponad 100 wystawach zbiorowych.
Właśnie podczas jeden z wystaw w Warszawie 27 września 2011 r., w Galerii aTAKKrzysztofa Musiała, poprosiłem Stanisława Baja o skupienie wewnętrzne na tle swoich prac i tak właśnie powstały portrety.
Mieszka w Warszawie, ale często przebywa w rodzinnej wsi Dołhobrody.
Dorobek artystyczny S. Baja obejmuje malarstwo, rysunek, a także grafikę. Dominują wśród nich portrety chłopskie, cykl prac poświęconych matce oraz pejzaże, dla których inspiracją są mieszkańcy Dołhobród oraz nadbużańskie krajobrazy.
Jego obrazy zostały przedstawione na okładkach książek Wiesława Myśliwskiego oraz płycie Teatru Tworzenia Jarosława Pijarowskiego – Living After Life.
Prace artysty znajdują się w zbiorach muzeów polskich oraz w prywatnych kolekcjach krajowych i zagranicznych.
Wielokrotnie odznaczany i nagradzany m.in.: Srebrny Medal „Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis”; Papież Jan Paweł II uhonorował artystę medalem „Benemerenti”; w sierpniu 2010 roku otrzymał godność honorowego obywatela Gminy Hanna; we wrześniu 2016 roku otrzymał tytuł honorowego obywatela miasta Biała Podlaska; Kapituła Okręgu Gdańskiego ZPAP, pod przewodnictwem prof. Teresy Grzybkowskiej przyznała prestiżową nagrodę malarską im. Kazimierza Ostrowskiego za rok 2019 prof. Stanisławowi Bajowi.
"... Maluję moje życie, udręki, pragnienia i tęsknoty, moją Mamę, sąsiadów, gnój, szarość pola, noc, poranne pianie koguta. Maluję chłopskość w jej codzienności, szarość w jej różnych odcieniach. To ona nadaje ton wszystkiemu, z niej się bierze cała chłopska pospolitość, ale i siła. Dzisiaj coraz bardziej nie wiadomo jaki jest chłopski świat, coraz trudniej zajrzeć w jego twarz, chwycić za rękaw jego szarej marynarki, by zapytać jaki on jest. Kiedy odchodzą chłopi, bo odchodzą, odchodzi przecież wieś, która sama sobie radziła z życiem, miłością, kulturą, wiarą... Sama wymyśliła dla siebie i dla nas swe wielkie dzieło - Chrystusa Frasobliwego. Sama się leczyła i sama się straszyła wymyślając sobie tysiące duchów, strachów, diabłów. Jeśli taka wieś odchodzi, to choć po niej zostanie parę portretów. Jak na kamieniu niech się odcisną ślady, że tu na skraju świata żyli ludzie, kochali się, cierpieli i umierali. Stanisław Baj (born June 2, 1953 in Dołhobrody) – painter, lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the European Academy of Arts.
He comes from a peasant family. He spent his childhood and early youth on the Bug in the Podlasie village of Dołhobrody, where he graduated from primary school. In the years 1968–1972 he studied at the state Secondary School of Fine Arts in Zamość, then in the years 1972–1978 he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the supervision of professors: M. Bylina, J. Sienicki and L. Maciąg. He graduated with honors from the studio of Ludwik Maciąg, with whom he remained as an assistant. In 1982, he started teaching at his alma mater, where he ran the Drawing Studio at the Faculty of Painting. At the same time, he led drawing and painting seminars at the European Academy of Arts in Warsaw. In the years 2006–2013 vice-rector for didactic affairs of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
Author of over 100 individual exhibitions in Poland and abroad, he also participated in over 100 collective exhibitions.
It was during one of the exhibitions in Warsaw on September 27, 2011, at Krzysztof Musiał's aTAK Gallery, that I asked Stanisław Baj to focus internally on the background of his works, and that's how the portraits were created.
He lives in Warsaw, but often stays in his home village of Dołhobrody.
S. Baj's artistic output includes painting, drawing and graphics. They are dominated by peasant portraits, a series of works dedicated to his mother and landscapes inspired by the inhabitants of Dołhobrody and the landscapes on the Bug River.
His paintings have been featured on the covers of Wiesław Myśliwski's books and on the CD of Jarosław Pijarowski's Theater of Creation - Living After Life.
The artist's works are in the collections of Polish museums and in private domestic and foreign collections.
Awarded and awarded many times, among others: Silver Medal "Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis"; Pope John Paul II honored the artist with the "Benemerenti" medal; in August 2010, he received the honorary citizenship of the Hanna Commune; in September 2016, he received the title of honorary citizen of the city of Biała Podlaska; Chapter of the Gdańsk District of ZPAP, chaired by prof. It is she who sets the tone for everything from her all peasant commonness, but also strength. When peasants leave, because they leave, after all, the village leaves who dealt with life, love, culture, faith on her own...
