Lubomir Wojciech Tomaszewski herbu Bończa (ur. 9 czerwca 1923 w Warszawie, zm. 15 listopada 2018 w Easton, w stanie Connecticut/USA) – artysta malarz, rzeźbiarz oraz projektant porcelany.
Syn Lubomira i Lucyny z domu Bartłomiejczyk, tak wspominał swoje artystyczne początki: „(...) mój wuj, Edmund Bartłomiejczyk, [przed wojną] prorektor akademii warszawskiej, stwierdził: „Słuchaj, ty jesteś urodzonym rzeźbiarzem”. I wtedy dostałem jakiegoś takiego kopa, bo nic, tylko rzeźbiłem…”.
Walczył w szeregach AK przez wszystkie 63 dni powstania warszawsdkiego, jako dowódca oddziału przeciwpancernego obsługując m.in. rusznice przeciwpancerną.Przeżył śmierć wielu swoich przyjaciół oraz siedemnastoletniego brata.
Po zakończeniu działań wojennych Lubomir Tomaszewski powrócił do Warszawy, gdzie rozpoczął studia na wydziale architektury Politechniki Warszawskiej oraz na wydziale rzeźby warszawskiej Akademii Sztuk Pięknych. Dyplom na ASP obronił w 1955 r., natomiast studia architektoniczne przerwał i nigdy już ich nie ukończył. Studiował również na Politechnice Warszawskiej. "…żyłem w kompletnej niezgodzie ze Związkiem Plastyków, a właściwie nie tyle ze Związkiem, ile z tematyką, jaką w tym czasie narzucano. […] Dumny jestem z tego, że nigdy nie wyrzeźbiłem Lenina, Stalina, czy jakiegoś innego idola komunistów…" – Lubomir Tomaszewski.
Pracę artystyczną rozpoczął w latach 50. W Instytucie Wzornictwa Przemysłowego, współpracował tam z takimi artystami jak: Henryk Jędrasiak, Mieczysław Naruszewicz czy Hanna Orthwein. To właśnie z tamtego okresu pochodzą porcelanowe figurki, z których jest najbardziej znany. Oprócz figurek Lubomir Tomaszewski zaprojektował także dwa serwisy do kawy „Ina” i „Dorota”. Oba serwisy w 1963 zostały pokazane na I Międzynarodowej Wystawie Form Przestrzennych.
W 1966 roku Lubomir Tomaszewski wyemigrował do Stanów Zjednoczonych i rok później rozpoczął pracę dydaktyczną na wydziale sztuki użytkowej i projektowania wnętrz Uniwersytetu w Bridgeport (stan Connecticut). W Ameryce mógł powrócić do realizowania swych rzeźbiarskich pasji, rozpoczął również eksperymentalne poszukiwania malarskie. Jego rzeźby i obrazy „ogniem malowane", tworzone przy pomocy płomienia, dymu i wody, odzwierciedlają przeżycia artysty, powstańca warszawskiego. „Szukałem odpowiedniego środka na przekazanie moich wrażeń z wojny” – mówił Tomaszewski w wywiadzie dla Polskiego Radia o wynalezionej przez siebie technice. Z drugiej strony użycie tych „naturalnych” narzędzi zwraca uwagę na przewodni motyw jego twórczości – inspirację naturą.
W 1994 roku Lubomir Tomaszewski założył międzynarodową grupę artystyczną Emocjonaliści, tworzą ją malarze, rzeźbiarze, graficy, fotografowie oraz muzycy. To właśnie w tamtym okresie zaczął tworzyć prace za pomocą ognia i dymu. W tej technice podjął temat swoich przeżyć z czasu wojny oraz powstania warszawskiego i stworzył cykl prac ukazujących różne aspekty ruchu, na przykład taniec. Pod koniec życia powrócił także do współpracy z ćmielowską fabryką porcelany i stworzył kolejne wzory figurek. The New York Times nazwał Lubomira Tomaszewskiego „rzeźbiarzem ruchu”. Artysta wziął udział w ponad 150 wystawach indywidualnych i zbiorowych na całym świecie.
The New York Times w 1975 roku pisał o nim: „Spośród jego dzieł najsilniej oddziałują te przedstawienia zwierząt i ptaków, w których widać napięcie, ruch lub brutalną siłę, coś, co zmaga się z grawitacją, aby utrzymać swą moc”.

Odwiedziłem Lubomira Tomaszewskiego 26 kwietnia 2009 w Easton w stanie Connecticut, gdzie mieszkał z żoną i miał pracownię. Dużo chodziliśmy wokół domu w lesie, gdzie wszędzie rozsiane były jego rzeźby, o których mówił: „…gdy znajduje w lesie poskręcane gałęzie, to mam wrażenie, że one coś opowiadają, o walce z naturą, o sile życia. Ja tylko językiem wizualnym dopowiadam do nich resztę historii…”. Muszę powiedzieć, że Tomaszewski wykorzystywał naturalnie ukształtowane kawałki drewna i kamienie w swoich rzeźbach. Patrząc na nie widzieliśmy to, co chciał pokazać. Był znakomity czas na zdjęcia, wczesna wiosną, jeszcze nie wszystko zazielenione, wręcz idealne do pokazania. Muszę powiedzieć, że nie widziałem czegoś podobnego do tej pory, w takich rozmiarach i różnorodności. Zrobiłem w sumie kilkadziesiąt rzeźb. Chodziliśmy przez kilka godzin. Po jakimś czasie, ktoś skradł wiele z nich, gdyż były elementem krajobrazu, a teren był nie ogrodzony. I jeszcze raz okazuje się, że zdjęcia są jedynym dokumentem, który po tych pracach pozostał.

Lubomir Wojciech Tomaszewski of the Bończa coat of arms (born June 9, 1923 in Warsaw, died November 15, 2018 in Easton, Connecticut / USA) - artist, painter, sculptor and porcelain designer.
The son of Lubomir and Lucyna née Bartłomiejczyk, recalled his artistic beginnings as follows: "(...) my uncle, Edmund Bartłomiejczyk, [before the war] vice-rector of the Warsaw Academy, said:" Listen, you are a born sculptor ". And then I got some kind of a kick, because I was just carving… ”.
He fought in the ranks of the Home Army for all 63 days of the Warsaw Uprising, as the commander of the anti-tank unit, serving, among others, anti-tank guns. He survived the deaths of many of his friends and his seventeen-year-old brother.
After the end of hostilities, Lubomir Tomaszewski returned to Warsaw, where he began studies at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology and at the Faculty of Sculpture at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. He defended his diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1955, but he interrupted his architectural studies and never graduated. He also studied at the Warsaw University of Technology. "... I lived in complete disagreement with the Union of Artists, or actually not so much with the Union as with the subject matter that was imposed at that time. [...] I am proud that I never sculpted Lenin, Stalin, or some other communist idol ..." - Lubomir Tomaszewski.
He started his artistic work in the 1950s at the Institute of Industrial Design, where he collaborated with such artists as: Henryk Jędrasiak, Mieczysław Naruszewicz and Hanna Orthwein. It is from this period that the porcelain figurines for which he is best known come from. Apart from the figurines, Lubomir Tomaszewski has also designed two coffee sets, "Ina" and "Dorota". In 1963, both services were shown at the 1st International Exhibition of Spatial Forms.
In 1966, Lubomir Tomaszewski emigrated to the United States and a year later began teaching at the Faculty of Applied Art and Interior Design at the University of Bridgeport (Connecticut). In America, he was able to return to the pursuit of his sculptural passions, he also began an experimental painting search. His sculptures and paintings "painted with fire", created with the help of flame, smoke and water, reflect the experiences of the artist, the Warsaw insurgent. "I was looking for a suitable medium to convey my impressions of the war," Tomaszewski said in an interview for Polish Radio about the technique he invented. On the other hand, the use of these "natural" tools draws attention to the leitmotif of his work - inspiration from nature. In 1994, Lubomir Tomaszewski founded the international artistic group, Emotionalists, composed of painters, sculptors, graphic artists, photographers and musicians. It was during this period that he began to create works using fire and smoke. Using this technique, he took up the subject of his experiences during the war and the Warsaw Uprising, and created a series of works showing various aspects of the movement, such as dance. At the end of his life, he also returned to cooperation with the Ćmielów porcelain factory and created new patterns of figures. The New York Times called Lubomir Tomaszewski "the sculptor of the movement". The artist has participated in over 150 individual and collective exhibitions all over the world. The New York Times in 1975 wrote about him: "Of his works, the most powerful depictions of animals and birds show tension, movement, or brute force, something that struggles with gravity to maintain its power." The works of Lubomir Tomaszewski are in, among others in the collections of: the National Museum in Warsaw, the National Museum in Krakow, the Warsaw Rising Museum, the Silesian Museum of Fine Arts in Wrocław, Hale Museum in Germany, Robert Marston INC., Marvin Gliman, Lighting Services INC., Laurance Rockefeller, the Ziselman family, Jimmy Carter, T. Komine of Kyowa Bank in Tokyo.
I visited Lubomir Tomaszewski on April 26, 2009 in Easton, Connecticut, where he lived with his wife and had a studio. We walked a lot around the house in the forest, where his sculptures were scattered everywhere, about which he said: "... when he finds twisted branches in the forest, I have the impression that they tell something about the fight with nature, about the power of life. I only use the visual language to add the rest of the story to them… ”. I must say that Tomaszewski used naturally shaped pieces of wood and stones in his sculptures. Looking at them, we saw what he wanted to show. It was a great time for photos, early spring, not everything green yet, perfect to show. I have to say I haven't seen anything like it so far, in this size and variety. I made several dozen sculptures in total. We walked for several hours. After some time, someone stole many of them, as they were part of the landscape and the area was not fenced. And once again it turns out that the photos are the only document left after these works.
