Leon Śliwiński (ur. 22 września 1916 w Płocku, zm. 9 lutego 2000 w Wiedniu) – polski artysta malarz, grafik, kolekcjoner i konserwator dzieł sztuki.

Brat Wincentego, poety i kolekcjonera. Ukończył Gimnazjum im. Marszałka Stanisława Małachowskiego w Płocku. Studiował malarstwo i architekturę w Warszawie na ASP w latach 1937-1939 i 1946-1948. Dyplom malarza i magistra sztuki otrzymał w 1948. Jeszcze jako uczeń gimnazjum otrzymał pierwszą w swej karierze nagrodę na Ogólnopolskiej Wystawie Malarskiej w Warszawie w 1932 roku.

Pierwszą swoją wystawę miał w 1935 w Warszawie. Później były wystawy w Monachium, Berlinie Zachodnim, Nowym Jorku. Początkowo malował kompozycje historyczne, następnie poświęcił się pejzażowi i malarstwu religijnemu. W 1960 roku przeniósł się do Wiednia, w którym mieszkał do śmierci.

W roku 1968 otrzymał nagrodę UNESCO za malarstwo. W 1989 został odznaczony złotym medalem "Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej".

„…Leona Śliwińskiego spotkałem 1 czerwca 1987 r. w Nowym Jorku, zrobiłem mu serię portretów. Miałem z nim zrobić większy materiał o tym co robi, ale wrócił do Wiednia. Wybitny pisarz, mój przyjaciel Ryszard Kapuściński, zawsze mówił, że jedno zdjęcie, to więcej niż 1000 słów, postanowiłem więc opublikować portrety…” – Czesław Czapliński.

  Jego prace bywały wystawiane na aukcjach, w tym m.in. Im Wiener Kaffeehaus, Pieta(1959), często abstrakcyjne lub ekspresyjne, obejmują tematykę figuralną, martwe natury i motywy religijne oraz cykle przedstawiające konie.

Leon Śliwiński (born 22 September 1916 in Płock, died 9 February 2000 in Vienna) – Polish painter, graphic artist, art collector, and art conservator.

He was the brother of Wincenty, a poet and collector. He graduated from the Marshal Stanisław Małachowski Secondary School in Płock. From 1937 to 1939 and again from 1946 to 1948, he studied painting and architecture in Warsaw at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1948 he received his diploma as a painter and a Master of Arts.

While still a secondary school student, he received the first award of his career at the National Painting Exhibition in Warsaw in 1932.

He held his first exhibition in Warsaw in 1935. Later exhibitions took place in Munich, West Berlin, and New York. Initially he painted historical compositions, but later devoted himself to landscape and religious painting. In 1960 he moved to Vienna, where he lived until his death.

In 1968 he received a UNESCO award for painting. In 1989 he was awarded the Gold Medal “Meritorious for Polish Culture.”

“...I met Leon Śliwiński on June 1, 1987, in New York and made a series of portraits of him. I was supposed to prepare a larger piece about what he was doing, but he returned to Vienna. The outstanding writer and my friend Ryszard Kapuściński always said that one photograph is worth more than a thousand words, so I decided to publish the portraits...” – Czesław Czapliński.

His works have appeared at auctions, including Im Wiener Kaffeehaus and Pieta (1959). Often abstract or expressive, his paintings include figurative subjects, still lifes, religious motifs, and series depicting horses.
