Dziś (17 stycznia 2021 r.) Betty White, wybitna amerykańska aktorka obchodzi 99 urodziny. Na ekranie TV pojawiła się po raz pierwszy w 1939 r. Miała wówczas 17 lat. Wciąż gra! Księga rekordów Guinnessa przyznała jej tytuł kobiety o "najdłuższej karierze telewizyjnej", nazywana w Ameryce "Pierwsza dama telewizji" oraz "amerykańskim skarbem narodowym". Polscy telewidzowie powinni pamiętać aktorkę w roli Ann Douglas – matki Stephanie Forrester w serialu "Moda na sukces".
To znakomity czas, aby przypomnieć nasze spotkanie w sierpniu 1983 r. w Nowym Jorku. Wyszła wówczas książka Betty White PET-LOVE z podtytułem – Jak zwierzęta się nami opiekują.
Muszę powiedzieć, że byłem trochę onieśmielony, gdyż Betty White była gwiazdą Hollywood, a ja na początku swej drogi w Nowym Jorku. Ale powtarzałem przysłowie „Jak spaść – to z dobrego konia”. Zrobiłem serię unikalnych zdjęć. Nie było zresztą z tym trudno, gdyż Betty White precyzyjnie wiedziała, jak zachowywać się przed aparatem. Chociaż mówiła, że aparat jej nie lubi.
Kiedy kilka lat później przygotowywałem wystawę portretów fotograficznych pt. FAMOUS FACES, w której miał znaleźć się portret Betty White, postanowiłem wysłać jej portret z informacją o wystawie, na adres z wizytówki, którą mi dała przy pierwszym spotkaniu.

Jak przystało na gwiazdę Hollywood, trzykrotnie wychodziła za mąż. Pierwsze małżeństwo z pilotem wojskowym Frederickiem R. Barkerem przetrwało tylko kilka tygodni. Drugie – z hollywoodzkim agentem Lane’em Allanem – dwa lata. W 1949 r. Betty była dwukrotną rozwódką i w 1961, podczas nagrania telewizyjnego teleturnieju "Passwords" poznała Allena Luddena – gospodarza programu. Starszy o 5 lat, ojciec trójki dzieci (Davida, Marthy i Sarah). Wówczas jego żona Margaret toczyła heroiczną walkę z rakiem. Niestety, przegrała. W październiku 1961 r. Ludden został wdowcem. Latem 1962 r. Betty znów spotkała Allena, razem wystąpili w sztuce "Critic’s Choice". Rozpoczął się ich romans. Aktorka odrzuciła pierwsze oświadczyny, ale drugie przyjęła. 14 czerwca 1963 r. została żoną Lunddena i była nią aż do jego śmierci w czerwcu 1981 r.
Allen Ludden jej mąż zmarł na raka żołądka 9 czerwca 1981 roku w Los Angeles. Chociaż nie mieli razem dzieci, jest macochą jego trójki dzieci z pierwszego małżeństwa z Margaret McGloin Ludden. White nie wyszła ponownie za mąż od śmierci Luddena. Polish viewers should remember the actress in the role of Ann Douglas - Stephanie Forrester's mother in the series "Moda na succes".
This is an excellent time to recall our meeting in August 1983 in New York. The book Betty White PET-LOVE with the subtitle - How animals care for us was published.
I must say I was a bit intimidated because Betty White was a Hollywood star and I was at the beginning of my New York journey. But I kept repeating the proverb "How to fall - it's from a good horse." I took a series of unique photos. It was not difficult with it, because Betty White knew precisely how to behave in front of the camera. Although she said the camera didn't like her.
When a few years later I was preparing an exhibition of photographic portraits entitled FAMOUS FACES, which was supposed to contain Betty White's portrait, I decided to send her portrait with information about the exhibition, to the address on the business card she gave me when I first met.
